American agribusiness Cargill entered into an agreement to purchase Poland-based value-added poultry firm Konspol, expanding the firm’s foothold in Poland’s protein market and poultry markets in 14 countries, a press release announced Friday. 

The deal includes Konspol’s food and fresh chicken business assets in Poland, the firm’s range of products, including branded and private label goods, and Konspol’s existing relationships with customers and suppliers.

“Konspol’s commitment to high-quality food and passion for innovation is the perfect fit for Cargill’s Global Poultry business. This acquisition allows us to better serve our customers through a diversified portfolio of value-added products,” Cargill Global Poultry President Chris Langholz said in a statement. “Konspol is a strong and established fresh chicken and value-added food company whose products are the preferred choice across Poland.”

Employing 1700 workers in Poland, Konspol’s operational assets include a feed mill, five broiler farms, and two processing facilities. The American firm said it plans to help Konspol expand following the close of the deal. 

“Cargill is a company with huge accomplishments and a global reach. It is also [a] family owned company that shares our values,” Kazimierz Pazgan, founder of Konspol, said in the release. “I am certain this is the best guarantee of a future for Konspol, a company I have expanded with my family for almost 40 years.”

Terms of the transaction were not detailed in the release. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals. 

Cargill’s poultry assets in Poland currently include 19 feed mills, a premix plant, and a wheat glucose syrup and ethanol production plant.
