Powder Testing Workstation
The Powder Testing Workstation PTW from Copley Scientific Copley Scientific Ltd

The Powder Testing Workstation PTW from Copley Scientific is a robust, easy-to-use solution for assessing the flowability of powders.

With its modular, customizable design, the new tester combines several of the most popular industrial powder testing methods including angle of repose, flow through an orifice (funnel), and shear cell. The Powder Testing Assistan PTA 100i--a standalone unit that streamlines powder testing procedures--is now available. Cost-effective and flexible these complementary solutions are a sound choice for the routine testing of pharmaceuticals, metals, foods, chemicals, and many other industrial powders.

The PTW is a mechanical base station, easily customizable to meet the needs of different users. Equipping it with the required functionality is simply a matter of choosing one or more relevant modules from: angle of repose, cylinder, funnel, shear cell and Scott volumeter (for complementary apparent density measurement). A dedicated metal powder testing module for flow and bulk density measurements in accordance with the relevant ISO and ASTM standards is also available.

The PTA 100i is a complementary unit that provides automated support, guiding the user through the testing process and helping to safeguard data integrity. It incorporates a timer function, acquires weight readings from a connected balance, and exports reports to a printer or PC. By combining the two components, users can establish an optimized solution tailored to individual requirements, whether the goal is single or multi-method testing, and even for novice analysts.

The new units replace the Flowability Tester BEP 2 delivering a major step forward in usability and functionality. Key improvements include:

• A new series of metal powder funnel geometries for Hall, Carney, and Gustavsson flow measurements.

• An integrated timer option, eliminating wired connections

• The capability to assess flowability on the basis of mass as well as time

• 50% weight reduction

• Smart, streamlined design for simple switching between alternative test methods

Alongside the PTW and PTA 100i Copley also offers the JVi series for bulk and tapped density measurement respectively. Together these solutions deliver a portfolio with considerable flexibility for reliable and cost-efficient powder testing and provide methods compliant with USP <1174> for those working with pharmaceuticals.
