The company's turkey processing plant in Springdale, AR, will close in the summer.

Cargill will close its turkey processing plant in Springdale on Aug. 1, 2025, a company spokesperson told ABC local news 40/29.
The spokesperson said it is the right move to make for the future of the company's turkey business. Much of the meat processing will take place at Missouri and Virginia plants.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, turkey meat production in the US during January–September 2024 was 3.86 billion pounds, a decrease of 6.3% from a year earlier. Turkey consumption also has been on a downward trajectory since 2019:
2019: 5.26 billion pounds
2020: 5.20 billion pounds
2021: 5.09 billion pounds
2022: 4.88 billion pounds
2023: 4.96 billion pounds
2024: 4.69 billion pounds (World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates projection as of October 2024)
In early December, Cargill announced it was cutting 5% of its global workforce, which is about 8,000 employees, due to shrinking revenue. This plant closure is the first of likely several to come this year. The food company has operations in 70 countries, with 1,000 locations worldwide.
In recent months, Cargill has cut 100 jobs at its Nashville, TN plant, sold the Nashville sausage packing plant to Smithfield Foods, and closed its Altoona, IA plant. The company has been in Springdale for 60 years.
