NFPA Elects New Board Members, Re-Elects Existing Members

The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) named new members to its board of directors Monday at the 2016 NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, the organization announced by press release.

Hatem Kheir, Teresa L. Deloach Reed, and Stacy N. Welch were elected to serve three-year terms as new members of the board, taking effect at the conclusion of the yearly meeting.

A registered professional engineer, Welch currently works as the senior director for fire protection and life safety for Marriot International. In her duties looking after the health and safety of more than one million hotel guests per day, Welch oversees engineers, inspectors and life safety specialists across 81 countries.

Reed is the fire chief of the Oakland, CA fire department, is a board member of the American Red Cross and has a position on the NFPA’s Emergency Responder Advisory Committee. Her career in fire safety began in San Jose, CA in 1986 as a fire fighter.

General manager of Cairo-based Kheir Group, Hatem Kheir, serves as vice chairman of of the Confederation of Fire Protection Association-International and is one of the founders of the Egyptian Fire Protection Association. A member of the NFPA since 1994, Kheir helped implement NFPA codes in fire pump stations in Egypt.

Several existing members of the NFPA’s board of directors were re-elected to their positions or elected to new positions. Tucker Consulting Associates’ Randolph W. Tucker was elected chair of the board, Underwriters Laboratories’ president and chief executive officer Keith E. Williams was named first vice chair, and Amy R. Acton, executive director of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, is second vice chair. Donald Cook, who works as chief electrical inspector for Shelby County, AL, was named secretary, Thomas A. Lawson retained his position as treasurer, and Tonya L. Hoover was re-elected to a second term on the board.
