A massive fire led to the explosion, which occurred on Sunday morning at the chemical plant, leaving 6 firefighters and 7 workers injured.

At least 13 people were sent to the hospital when a huge fire resulted in an explosion on Sunday morning at the Parker Lord plant in Saegertown, PA. Officials said that six firefighters and seven plant workers were injured.
Crawford County 911 received an automatic alarm from Parker Lord at 10:36 a.m., and fire officials were called to the chemical plant around 10:30 a.m. after an automatic fire alarm went off within the facility, local news sources stated. Officials said an explosion then occurred as crews worked to contain the fire.
A temporary shelter-in-place order for residents was implemented as crews continued to fight the flames. It was lifted several hours later.
During a serious of press conferences following the explosion, Chuck Lawrence with Saegertown Borough Emergency Management said five Saegertown firefighters, one Edinboro firefighter, and seven plant employees were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following the explosion.
Lawrence said that several of the firefighters "got some bumps and bruises, and I can tell you it’s really lucky there weren’t fatalities on this because of the extent of the explosion."
A physician at UPMC Hamot told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 at least six patients are being treated from the facility. None of the patients are within the hospital's trauma center and none are critically ill.
Parker Lord, a part of Parker Hannafin since 2019, manufactures adhesives, coatings, thermal management materials, motion management devices, and sensing technologies.
